REID SEDDELMEYER

Reid Seddelmeyer has become a key contributor to the Culver Girls Academy (CGA) basketball team, starting in every one of her 97 career games.

On Jan. 28, she became CGA Basketball's all-time leader in wins with 58 after a victory over Plymouth. Since then, she has extended that record to 61 wins.

"Reid is a winner and does all the little things that help a team win a game," coach Bill Murchie said. "She is our best defender and guards the other team's best player every single night."

With the help of Seddelmeyer, CGA Basketball also tied the record for most wins in a regular season this year with 17.

With the 47-33 sectional championship win over John Glenn High School on Feb. 8, CGA earned their 20th win of the season, tying the school record for most wins in the regular season and postseason.

Murchie praised Seddelmeyer for her leadership and growth throughout the years. He also highlighted that her unmatched commitment to the program has been key to its success.

"Four years ago, when I became the head coach of this program, Reid was the first player I met with and I laid out a vision for her and this program," he said. "She has been on board since day one with no questions asked. She has grown so much as a player, leader and young woman."

Before entering tournament play, Murchie also emphasized the importance of Seddelmeyer continuing her leadership role. He wanted her to be the voice of reason and remind her teammates to stay grounded, never getting too high or too low.

"Play every possession like your basketball life is on the line," he said. "And above all else, smile and enjoy the ride."

AUSTIN KINSEY

Austin Kinsey

Austin Kinsey delivered a standout performance at the sectional tournament, earning a third-place finish, the highest by any member of the boys' wrestling team this year.

Despite entering the tournament with a regular season record of 5-8, coach Patrick Mulkerin said Kinsey's peak performance at sectionals showcased his true potential.

"He peaked at the right time and ended up outperforming the whole team," Mulkerin said.

Kinsey went 3-1 on the day, only falling to Brant Beck of Rochester, the undefeated returning champion.

"As a third-year wrestler, Austin has built up a solid technical base to establish early leads," Mulkerin said. "He also wrestles each opponent with intensity and focus to maintain control over his opponents for the duration of the match."

Kinsey was one of four Culver boys wrestlers to advance to the regional tournament.

Although he did not advance to semi-state, Kinsey's performance throughout the regular season and into the postseason proved to be a testament to his determination.

Congratulations to our January 2025 Student-Athletes of the Month!
