June 2023 student-athletes of the month

CGA's Harlie Hanley '23 and CMA's Michael Patipe '24 have been named the student-athletes of the month for June.

Hanley '23, from Culver, Indiana, was an integral part of CGA rowing's impressive 2022-2023 rowing season. She was a key member of the women's youth 4+ team that placed first at the Midwest Scholastic Championships on May 14. Additionally, she helped lead her team to a couple of top finishes at national events. The CGA varsity rowing team finished fourth at the Scholastic Rowing Association of America championships, and 16^th at the Youth Nationals on June 11.

"Harlie has really blossomed this season and has made great efforts to be a great teammate as well as athlete," said CGA rowing coach Kerry Hassall. "She has been appreciative for opportunities and has been flexible when I have asked her to move seats in the boat. Harlie is one of the most coachable athletes I have ever worked with. It doesn't matter if I give her 100 coaching corrections, she absorbs the cues and tries to make the change. I have absolutely loved working with Harlie in the lead up to nationals and I am so excited to see what she does next."

Harlie Hanley will attend and row for the United States Naval Academy in the fall.

Patipe, from San Antonio, Texas, won three individual titles at the IHSAA sectional at Plymouth High School on May 18. He won the 100-meter high hurdles, 300-meter intermediate hurdles, long jump, and was the lead leg on the winning 4x400 meter relay team. He scored 40 of CMA's 155 total points, leading the boys track and field team to its third consecutive sectional title.

Patipe performed well again at the regional meet on May 25. He finished sixth in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles, and second in the 110-meter high hurdles. His second-place finish qualified him to compete in at the state meet on June 2, where he finished 24^th overall.
