October Athletes of the Month

Ella Campbell and Tyler Li have been awarded the October 2022 Athletes of the Month.

Campbell '23, from Columbus, IN, is a senior on the varsity rowing team. She performs as the coxswain on the varsity 4's. Campbell led her team to the fastest time in Culver Girls Academy history at the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, MA on October 23^rd with a time of 19:08.

"Ella has a smile on her face regardless of what boat she is placed in," coach Kerry Hassall said. "Even being new to coxing, Ella has grabbed the challenge with both hands and done everything she can to progress. Known as being the "Coxswain's race" because of the difficult turns and bridges, Ella coxed our varsity coxed four to an 18^th place finish at the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston. Ella navigated her crew around 89 other competitors in her category and shortened her boat's course by nearly 200 meters because of how precise she made her crew's race line around the turns. She embodies everything that Culver teaches, she is a leader and an incredible teammate."

Campbell leads the CGA rowing team in the Head of the Hooch regatta in Chattanooga, TN on November 4^th-6^th.

Li '25, from La Jolla, California, plays #1 singles for the varsity tennis team. Li led his team to a 19-2 regular season record and was integral in Culver Military Academy winning their 19^th straight sectional championship. Li and the CMA tennis team also won their first regional and semi-state championships since 2017 and played a close match against Homestead in the state quarterfinals.

Li finished his dominant 2022 season with a 24-2 record. His only losses came at the hands of the state champion and state runner-up. Additionally, Li was the only underclassmen in the final eight players in the Indiana state tournament.
