CGA Track and Field wins 11th Sectional Championship

The Culver Girls Academy's track and field team wrapped up their 11th IHSAA sectional championship on Tuesday evening. The girls finished first out of 11 teams with 151 points, 53 more than the second-place school, Plymouth.

The field events were dominated by CGA's Lena Spiller '23 and Susie Bourdier '24. Spiller finished first in the high jump and long jump, with marks of 5' 4" and 17' ¼" respectively. Bourdier vaulted 10 feet, earning her first place in the pole vault.

In the relay events, the girls started strong and never slowed down. The quartet of Jade Springer '25, Lillian VerMeulen '23, Grace Gibbs '24, and Margaret VerMeulen '23 won the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 10:01.93. Later in the meet, the 4x100 team of Brighton Bird '23, Bourdier, Emma Zimpleman '26, and Alexa LaBella '24 finished first at 51.13. And in the 4x400, Brighton Bird, Gibbs, Springer, and Quinn Bird '24 claimed first with a time of 4:13.06.

The 300-meter hurdles had an interesting development. Spiller won the event with a time of 48.61, but finishing in third place was Valencia Miller '26 at 50.68. Miller had never raced in the event prior to this meet.

In the distance events, Celeste Gram '24 won the 1600 meter run, and placed second in the 3200 meter run, with times of 5:16.24 and 11:57.36.
