Jack Collins '25 and Piper Gwinn '27 have been awarded February 2025's Student-Athletes of the Month.
PIPER GWINN

Piper Gwinn has been a standout player for the Culver Girls Academy (CGA) U16 hockey team, helping secure the JWHL Championship with a perfect 6-0 record.
Between Jan. 25 and Feb. 17, Gwinn played 12 games, scored 10 goals, and added 9 assists for a total of 19 points. She also finished with a +7 rating and only 6 penalty minutes.
In addition to her recent performance, Gwinn has had an impressive season overall.
By the end of February, Gwinn played 47 games, recording 31 goals and 31 assists for a total of 62 points. She also finished with a +38 rating and 24 penalty minutes.
"Piper has made a significant impact over the past two years," coach Gracen Hirschy said. "Her sharp instincts, elite puck skills, and smooth skating make her one of the top goal scorers in the nation."
Looking ahead to this weekend's MidAm district playoffs in Cranberry Township, Pa., Hirschy said that beyond Gwinn's ability to score and create plays, it is her leadership and experience that the team will lean on.
While the team has been playing well, Hirschy said they have had to overcome challenges such as sickness, postponed game times, comebacks from 2-goal deficits, overtime situations, and long travel days.
"The team has proven that we can maintain a fast-paced game consistently, even when faced with adversity," Hirschy said. "The confidence and grit we've built going into MidAms will be key to our success this weekend."
The CGA U16 team will play their first game on March 8, while the CGA Prep team will also compete in Pennsylvania, with their first game on March 7.
JACK COLLINS

As co-captain of the Culver Military Academy (CMA) swim and dive team, Jack Collins played a key role in leading the boys to a sectional championship title.
Collins placed first in the 100 Yard Breaststroke, first in the 200 Yard Medley Relay, second in the 100 Yard Freestyle, and third in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay. Results
At the State prelims, Collins placed 17th in two of the four events—just one spot shy of advancing to the finals. Results
Though he narrowly missed the top-16 cut in the 200 Yard Medley Relay and 100 Yard Freestyle and raced well in the other two events, his hard work was evident as he shaved 7.57 seconds from the sectional meet to the State prelims.
"Jack has been a top competitor, consistently pushing himself to perform at a high level and setting an example for his teammates," coach Sarah Youvan said. "Over the season, his development as a swimmer has been substantial."
Youvan said Collins is incredibly coachable and has demonstrated a strong work ethic, continuously refining his technique and working hard to improve his stroke.
"His dedication to growth and improvement has made him not only a stronger swimmer but also a role model for his teammates," she said. "He has consistently supported his teammates, cheering them on and fostering a positive and encouraging environment. His ability to teach and guide others has also been invaluable in helping the team grow and improve."
Beyond his athletic accomplishments, Collins excels academically.
CMA counselor Kevin Bowman said Collins began the year as Band's Unit Commander and is currently serving as the Adjutant for Squadron.
A 4.0 student, Collins will continue his academic journey at the University of Notre Dame this fall, carrying on his family tradition.
Congratulations to our February 2025 Student-Athletes of the Month!
