Henry Martello '24 and Kari Teglia '24 have been awarded August 2023 Student-Athletes of the Month.

Martello is a four-year member of the CMA football team. He has started every game of his career when healthy and was recently named one of four team captains. 

• Helped lead his Eagle teammates to an impressive week one win with 4 tackles, 2 assists, 4 tackles for loss, and 3 sacks, as well as knocking down a pass.

• Awarded Defensive Player of the Game by the South Bend Community School Corporation and the Eagle Hammer Award. 

• In the Eagles' second contest, he recorded 2 tackles, 3 assists, 2 tackles for loss, and 1 sack. 

"Henry's work ethic on the field is evident in the classroom as he must work just as hard to perform in the classroom as he does the football field," head coach Andy Dorrel said. "He is not only the most productive Eagle defensive player but also anchors the offensive line. He is a quiet leader who sets a positive example for others, as his humility is one of his greatest assets. Henry epitomizes selfless service as he puts the needs of the team before himself and is the type of player whose efforts make everyone around him better," Dorrel said.

Kari has had a remarkable start to her senior season as co-captain of the CGA Golf Team. 

• Tied the CGA nine-hole course record in a match versus Chesterton, with a four-under-par 32.

• Earned low-medalist in her first match versus Winamac, shooting a two-under-par 34. 

• Finished third of nearly 60 golfers at the Rochester Invitational, shooting par.

• Remained under par, the best start to a season in recent memory.

• Lead and still leads as CGA's 1st Rotation Senior Prefect

"Kari has been an exemplary team leader, going out of her way to welcome newcomers on the team with her characteristic positivity, thoughtfulness, and kindness," head coach Justin Pannkuk said. "Remarkably, she continues to lead our successful program while serving as CGA's 1st Rotation Senior Prefect, the school's highest leadership position."
