Evan Gerber was nominated for the MaxPreps Indiana High School Athlete of the Week. Gerber was also awarded the team's Player of the Week from his coaches. The 6'5'', 210 lb. senior from Hudson, Ohio terrorized the opposing team with 12 tackles, nine tackles for loss, five sacks, four hurries and a forced fumble. He also had two clutch receptions on offense to help push his team to a 17-14 win over Indianapolis Arsenal Tech High School.
With the Arsenal Tech Titans leading the game 14-10 late in the fourth quarter, the CMA Eagles rallied around their sophomore quarterback
Michael McColgan. The young quarterback led his team down the field and tossed a touchdown pass to fellow sophomore receiver
Steven Gray to lead the game 17-14 late in the fourth.
The three-point lead would hold. The Titans made some clutch plays on their own, but they were no match for
Evan Gerber's will and determination to get the season-opening win. Gerber would go on an absolute tear, making his presence felt along the Indianapolis Tech offensive line.
"Evan's commitment to building himself into a football player the past 3 years is impressive", says Head Coach
Andy Dorrel. "We had high expectations for Evan heading into his Senior season, and we're pleased to see his hard work making such an impact so early. Evan is an outstanding student in the classroom, a leader in his living unit, and plays the drums in Culver's Military marching band. Additionally, Evan plays first base for the Eagles in the spring. Evan is the type of multi-sport, scholar-athlete in which everyone in the Culver family takes great pride in supporting and cheering. We are looking forward to Evan's leadership and competitiveness to lead the Eagles throughout the football season."
