CMA Prep Lacrosse Wins MSLA Championship

It took the Eagles two hard-fought games, and an overtime period, to win the 2023 Midwest Scholastic Lacrosse Association (MSLA) championship on Saturday.

The Culver Military Academy prep team began tournament play on Friday, winning 12-8 over Kiski Academy. The game can be viewed in its entirety here.

Leading the team in points was Nicholas Roode. Mason Szewcyk led the team in assists with three. The defense, led by team captain Rowan Clay and Zachary Mesa, played admirably, helping shut down the opposing team to only eight goals.

In the championship game, the Eagles faced off against the tournament host Western Reserve Academy of Ohio. The game was an entertaining back and forth, with WRA scoring a game tying goal with only two seconds remaining in regulation. In overtime, Nicholas Roode sealed it for the Eagles, scoring his ninth goal of the weekend, and the Eagles won 12-11. Watch the game here.

The Eagles are on an absolute tear this season. They are 15-2 headed into the National Prep Lacrosse Championship in Bel Air, Maryland on May 19 – 21.
