As a sports science junkie who honed his coaching skills at various independent schools, Coach Brown joined Culver Academies Swim and Dive staff in 2016. His goal since has been to place the principle of specificity at the foundation of all practices.
Culver's tankmen practice to race. Every practice, Brown pushes Culver Swim and Dive program members to perfect a technical element, code faster and faster swimming into their neural networks, and ultimately push themselves to failure. Every stroke is expected to be thoughtful and inspired, and to beat the clock.
In his 13 years of competitive swimming, Brown won several individual and all-around Arkansas state titles and set several state records.
When not in the pool or humanities classrooms, Brown lifting in the fitness center, running/biking Culver's muddy trails, raiding the library's poetry shelves, or chastising swimmers' unhealthy dining hall choices while he eats a donut.
