Edgar M. Little III joined the Culver Academies in 1991 as the Varsity Polo Coach. He became the Co-Director of Horsemanship in 1995 and then Director of Horsemanship in 1997. Ed is currently the Director of Horsemanship Operations and was a consultant in the renovation of the twelve-million dollar horsemanship facilities. Ed graduated from New Mexico Military Institute HS ‘71 and JC ’73, earned an Associate of Arts and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Texas P.B. in 1990.
Prior to arriving at the Culver Academies, Ed worked as a developer and builder in Midland, TX, owned and operated a cable business, and worked the family ranching business in West Texas. He played varsity polo at NMMI and continued with the sport as a professional polo player from 1976-1991 winning numerous tournaments and winning the regional USPA umpire of the year award in 1991. During his time at Culver, Ed taught advanced and basic equitation, coached the Lancer Platoon, and rough riding. The CMA and CGA polo teams made it to the National finals nine times. In 2000 the CGA team won the Women’s USPA Interscholastic National Championship. Three of his players; Amit Sharma ’94, Jeff Markle ’00, and Michelle Weeks ’05 won the Polo Training Foundation Interscholastic Player of the year with Jeff Markle going on to win the Intercollegiate polo player of the year at Cornell. Ed also initiated equine science, honors in equine science, worked closely with admissions to increase troop enrollment, implemented forage production program and supported the development of scholastic hunter/jumper competition with the Interscholastic Equitation Association.
He has organized and helped prepare the Black Horse Troop and Culver Girls Academy Equestriennes to six Presidential Inaugural parades with one hundred horses. He is a member of the Indiana Equine Advisory Council that has provided State Law for Standards in Equine Care. Ed and his wife Kris have two sons; Sam a Culver grad Band ’02, an IUSB graduate, an MIS for the Braun Corp. in Winamac, IN and Jake a Culver grad Troop ‘04, an A&M graduate, Subsea Installation Engineer for Exxon in Houston. In his leisure time, Ed enjoys fly fishing and skeet shooting with friends and students.
