Maverick Avent '25 and Jacqueline Gasseau '27 have been awarded December 2024's Student-Athletes of the Month.

Whitaker said Gasseau has become a source of inspiration for her team due to her unwavering work ethic.

"Her dedication to improvement is evident as she shows up every day with the goal of getting better," he said. "This consistent effort not only enhances her skills but also sets a benchmark for her teammates. Her commitment is infectious, encouraging others to elevate their own performance both on and off the ice."

Aside from her work ethic, Whitaker said Gasseau's unique sense of humor also plays a significant role in boosting team morale, creating a light-hearted atmosphere that the entire group can appreciate and makes the team feel more connected.

As the team continues through the second half of the season, Whitaker emphasized that it's crucial for Gasseau to never settle for mediocrity and to consistently show up.

"Embracing the mindset of constant improvement can lead to significant growth on and off the ice," he said.

He also said consistency breeds reliability and trust, both in yourself and from others.

"By maintaining a steady commitment to your goals and responsibilities, you lay the groundwork for achieving exceptional outcomes, especially in pressure situations like Districts and/or Nationals," Whitaker said.

Coach Kevin Patrick says Avent has been competing at a high level all season, and his numbers prove it.

"Maverick's play has given the team the confidence that they can beat anyone in the country, and this was displayed in our 2-1 victory at Shattuck on Dec. 21."

As the team moves through the second half of the season, Coach Patrick has high expectations for Avent.

"Maverick is a returning prep player, so he is aware of the grind of our second-half schedule," Patrick said. "He is also keenly aware of the margin for success or failure against the best teams in the country. I believe he will take the next step in his development and give us a great opportunity for success the rest of the season."
