Culver Military Academy soccer head coach
Kevin Green won his 100
th career game Thursday night against Wawasee High School as the Eagles improved to 2-0. Green, who also serves as CMA's deputy commandant, is in his 11th season as head coach at Culver.
Green has an overall record of 100-56-9, and previously served five years as assistant under longtime coach Jim Brugh. Green credited the players for the win, saying the team has quickly jelled this season.
"
Oscar Cano had his second game with two goals.
Leo Brummell had one goal and two assists.
Jed Lee did a great job of changing our formation a bit to counter and defend. They're coming together so quick, it's almost midseason form," he said.
That is especially challenging at Culver because while most schools in Indiana start practicing in July, Green can't begin working with his team until players arrive on campus at the boarding school until early August.
Having served twenty years in the Marine Corps, combined with several coaching certifications, has allowed Green to bring the experience of team building to quickly assimilate the variety of skill sets of the players over the years into competitive teams. Green said this year's team has potential.
"Last year we had moments of brilliance. This team has shown we can mix players around. They are clicking together, and their skill sets are comparable. They're already starting to work together. We've got a lot of good parts. Solid keeping. There is enough there for a fun season. The potential is there to repeat last year's accomplishments," he said.
