Westfield IN. The Eagles traveled to Westfield Indiana for the toughest game of their season to-date as they took on the #3 Westfield Shamrocks. The Eagles were without Senior
Colin Chupp for the second straight game due to illness.
          Â
The game had the feel of a back-and-forth, heavyweight brawl, as neither team could pull away early.
Westfield scored first on a free-throw resulting from a
Cooper Farrall foul, however he responded with a two-point shot at the other end. The Rocks hit a three to gain a two-point advantage, but Farrall responded again with a two to tie the game back up. Westfield took the lead again but after Farrall responded again, this time with a three, Culver began to create some separation.
Daley Stein made a free throw, and
Thomas Collins hit a three to make it a two-possession game.
Fola Fayemi ended the first with a two-point bucket to make it a 13-10 game in favor of the Eagles.
          Â
Westfield quickly tied it up and took the lead on an and-one and a three, but Collins leveled the score with a three of his own. Both teams each hit their next shot with Farrall banging in a three and Westfield making a two from the paint. Westfield made another shot and started to pull away midway through the second as they had eight unanswered points. Fayemi and
Amir Gates managed to respond with a quick four-points to make it a three-point game. A last-second three from Westfield gave them a six-point lead at the half with a score of 23-29.
          Â
Farrall started the second half much like the first: on fire. Six straight points after a Westfield make brought Culver to within two of the Shamrocks. Collins hit another three right as Westfield attempted to pull away again to keep the game within reach. After a great defensive effort by both teams, Stein was able to hit a two-point bucket and Farrall got the foul line and made one shot to end the quarter 35-37 in favor of Westfield.
          Â
The fourth-quarter was the best offensive quarter for both teams as they got into a shootout at the end of the game. Farrall and Westfield seemed to trade buckets at the start of the quarter as Farrall hit a shot to open the game and got to the line twice, making both shots both times. However, Westfield seemed to always find an answer. Westfield went on a short, five-point run to get the game to three possessions, however Farrall responded this time with a pair of free throws, a two-point shot, and a three to get the game to just two points. Westfield managed to get to the line and hit both shots to take a four-point lead late in the game.
Jokubas Skurdenis came in clutch with a big three in the last minute to make it a one-point game, however a foul from Skurdenis put the Shamrocks at the line with a chance to make the lead three. The free-throw was missed but went out of bounds and was last touched by Culver with a little over 20 seconds to go. Westfield's guard was able to get past the ten-second line, as well as evade a trap in the corner to kill enough time before getting fouled, and Culver had to throw a full court shot that came up just short, losing 52-54.
