Culver IN. Culver took on their second opponent of the weekend on Saturday and had no issues in their victory over the Slicers of LaPorte. The crowd was loud, and the student section was filled on a blackout night. The lights went out as the Eagles ran out of the tunnel and as the starting lineups were announced prior to the tip.
The tip-off was contested and went out of bounds, so LaPorte started with the ball. A turnover gave the ball right back and Culver never looked back.
Amir Gates started the game with a two-point field goal and
Thomas Collins added six more on two straight three-point baskets to make the lead 8-0 early in the quarter. Collins added another three to end the quarter and was the leading scorer for the opening period with nine, Gates and
Fola Fayemi both added two for a 13-7 lead.
Culver blew the game open in the second quarter. A defensive masterpiece by the Eagles helped in large part as they only allowed four points in the second quarter. Offensively,
Cooper Farrall and Fayemi both lead with seven points on one three and a pair of points at the bucket. Gates added four to give Culver a 20-point lead and make it 31-11.
Culver continued its control in the third quarter. LaPorte went on an early run but the Eagles quickly regained control with buckets by Fayemi and Collins, and capped off with a big three by
Andrew Macheca which got the crowd roaring. Fayemi added two more to be the leading scorer of the quarter.
Culver capped off a dominant performance in the fourth. Farrall added eight points to cap off a 17-point game which tied him with Fayemi for leading scorer on the night.
Jokubas Skurdenis added two to give the game a final score of 56-32.
Culver's next game will be on the road at Fort Wayne Bishop Leurs on Tuesday at 7:00pm.
