Lafayette IN.- The Eagles traveled for the third time in a row as they went to Lafayette to take on the Lafayette Catholic Knights. The night started with the CMA color guard presenting the colors for the game. Soon after, a shoot-out between the two teams began. In a close, back-and-forth game, the Eagles narrowly lost 64-66 for their first loss of the season.
Culver got ahead quickly 8-3 thanks to six-points from junior forward
Cooper Farrall. Culver led for most of the first quarter, but a shootout allowed the Knights to stay in it and tie the game at the end of the first. Farrall led with eight-points and senior forward
Daley Stein added another five.
The second quarter allowed Lafayette to pull ahead. The Knights were able to get what they wanted in the paint and managed to get a 38-31 lead at half to end a high scoring first-half. Junior guard
Thomas Collins led with six-points, and Farrall tacked on three more to keep Culver competitive heading into half.
The second-half started much like the first with Culver coming out firing, making two straight threes to get the game within one. Farrall dominated the third quarter with 11 points on three threes, while Collins tacked on a pair as well to help bring Culver in front to end the quarter 53-50. Culver's defense really shined as they held the Knights to just 12 points.
The fourth quarter was a heavyweight bout as both teams battled to try and pull away from each other. Culver managed to get the lead as high as six-points, but Lafayette never let Culver get comfortable and quickly stormed back to tie and take a one-point lead.
With 11.5 seconds left and Culver down one, Farrall got the ball off the inbound and got a clear lane to the basket. In a bang-bang play, Farrall collided with a defender and got the bucket to fall, but the call on the court didn't go Culver's way as the ref signaled for a charge. Culver fouled with 1.5 left on the clock but it wasn't enough time as the half court heave missed and the Eagles fell short 64-66.
